WASHINGTON, D.C. (WMDJ) — A rough night for Cincinnati ended with the Reds falling to the Washington Nationals, 8-2, Saturday night at Nationals Park.

Washington struck first on a two-run single by Abimelec Ortiz in the third inning before Eugenio Suárez gave Cincinnati its only real spark of the night. Suárez hit his 16th home run of the season in the sixth, a two-run shot that scored Sal Stewart and tied the game at 2-2.

The tie didn't last long.

Washington answered with four runs in the bottom of the sixth, highlighted by a two-run double from Andrés Chaparro, to take a 6-2 lead. The Nationals added two more runs in the eighth.

Chase Burns endured one of the roughest outings of his young career, allowing five earned runs on six hits and three walks over 5 1/3 innings. He struck out six and fell to 13-2.

The Reds managed just five hits and fell to 56-60 on the year.

Cincinnati will try to avoid the series sweep Sunday afternoon. First pitch is set for 12:15 p.m., with pregame coverage beginning at 11:45 a.m. on WMDJ FM 100.1.
