CINCINNATI, Oh. (WMDJ) — The Cincinnati Reds survived a late-inning slugfest Friday night, rallying past the Pittsburgh Pirates, 8-7, at Great American Ball Park.

Pittsburgh scored twice in the opening inning, but the Reds answered with RBI hits from Tyler Stephenson and Nathaniel Lowe. JJ Bleday tied the game with a solo home run in the third before Sal Stewart’s two-run homer gave Cincinnati a 5-3 lead in the fourth.

Pirates starter Paul Skenes allowed five runs on seven hits and four walks over four innings. He struck out seven.

Pittsburgh erased Cincinnati’s lead with three runs in the eighth, taking a 7-5 advantage. The Reds responded immediately. Stewart tied the game with a two-run single before scoring the go-ahead run when Pirates second baseman Brandon Lowe failed to complete a play on Nathaniel Lowe’s ground ball.

Stewart finished with four RBIs and scored twice. Emilio Pagán pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his second victory in as many nights.

De La Cruz finished 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored, an RBI and a stolen base, while the Reds collected nine hits in the win.

Cincinnati struck first in the third inning when De La Cruz doubled home Matt McLain before Sal Stewart followed with an RBI single to make it 2-0.

Pittsburgh chipped away in the fifth before Brandon Lowe tied the game with a solo home run in the sixth.

The Pirates threatened to take the lead in the seventh, loading the bases with two outs, but reliever Brock Burke struck out Lowe to end the inning and preserve the tie.

That set the stage for the ninth.

The game turned in the fifth inning when Cleveland sent nine batters to the plate and scored four runs. Travis Bazzana opened the scoring with an RBI single before Kyle Manzardo and Gabriel Arias each drew bases-loaded walks. Patrick Bailey capped the inning with a sacrifice fly to make it 4-0.

The Reds finally broke through in the sixth when Noelvi Marte drove home Dane Myers with an RBI single, trimming the deficit to 4-1.

Manzardo added insurance in the seventh with his 13th home run of the season before Steven Kwan's sacrifice fly later in the inning extended the lead to 6-1.

Brady Singer took the loss despite allowing just four hits over 4? innings. Four Cincinnati relievers combined to finish the game.

JJ Bleday provided all the offense Cincinnati needed in the first inning, launching a solo home run to right field, his 18th of the season.

The Reds added an insurance run in the fifth when Dane Myers scored from third on a wild pitch by Cleveland starter Gavin Williams, extending the lead to 2-0.

Cincinnati's bullpen took care of the rest. Carson Ferguson, Julian Garcia, Jorge Franco, Ian Antone and Emilio Pagán combined to hold the Guardians scoreless on just three hits while striking out seven. Franco earned his first win of the season, and Pagán picked up his 11th save.

Cleveland jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning when Kyle Manzardo hit a two-out grand slam off Chase Burns.

The Reds answered with Sal Stewart's 22nd home run of the season in the third before taking the lead with a four-run fourth inning. Tyler Stephenson drove in a run with a double, Edwin Arroyo followed with an RBI single, and Stewart capped the rally with a two-run single to put Cincinnati ahead 5-4.

The Guardians tied the game in the fifth on Chase DeLauter's sacrifice fly before taking the lead for good in the eighth. With runners on first and third, Brayan Rocchio laid down a sacrifice bunt that allowed DeLauter to score what proved to be the winning run.

Stewart led Cincinnati offensively, finishing 2-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs and two walks. Elly De La Cruz, Nathaniel Lowe, Tyler Stephenson and Eric Myers each collected two hits.

The Cardinals struck first on José Fermín's sacrifice fly in the second inning, but Elly De La Cruz answered with a solo home run in the third, his 18th of the season. St. Louis regained the lead later in the inning on Iván Herrera's solo shot before Ke'Bryan Hayes tied the game again with a solo homer in the fifth.

After both bullpens kept the game tied through nine innings, the Reds broke through in the 10th. KENTUCKY (WMDJ) — Eastern Kentucky basketball standout Braxton Keathley has announced his commitment to the University of the Pacific.

The former Martin County and Prestonsburg High School standout is coming off a dominant junior season in which he surpassed 3,000 career points and averaged 33 points and nine rebounds per game, finishing as Kentucky's second-leading scorer.

He was also named the 2025-26 MaxPreps Kentucky High School Basketball Player of the Year.

Earlier this summer, Keathley announced he would transfer to Prolific Prep in Florida for his senior season, where he will compete against many of the nation's top high school players.

Prolific Prep has produced numerous Division I and NBA players, including Darryn Peterson, who was selected second overall by the Utah Jazz in the 2026 NBA Draft.

Keathley is expected to share the court this season with several highly regarded prospects, including five-star recruits Nasir Anderson, Malachi Jordan, Lewis Uvwo and Bamba Touray.

Sal Stewart blasted a go-ahead three-run homer in the seventh inning as the Reds defeated the Seattle Mariners 5-3 Wednesday afternoon at T-Mobile Park, securing both their second straight win and their first series victory since June.

Seattle struck first in the second inning on an RBI single by Cal Raleigh before Cincinnati answered in the fourth. JJ Bleday tied the game with his 17th home run of the season, and Dane Myers followed with an RBI single to put the Reds ahead 2-1.

The Mariners responded in the bottom half of the inning, as Luke Raley delivered a two-run single to regain a 3-2 lead.

Colorado scored twice in the first inning before breaking the game open with four runs in the second and two more in the third. Rhett Lowder lasted just 2? innings, allowing eight earned runs on 11 hits while striking out two. The loss dropped him to 3-7 on the season.

PRESTONSBURG, Ky. (WMDJ) — Prestonsburg High School senior Bailee Ratliff has earned All-American Cheerleader honors at UCA Camp in Lexington for the fourth consecutive year.

Ratliff is the first Blackcat cheerleader since 2010 to receive the All-American designation during all four years of high school.

Now entering her senior year, Ratliff serves as co-captain of the Blackcat cheerleading squad and will help lead the team during the upcoming football and basketball seasons.

The All-American recognition is awarded to select cheerleaders who demonstrate strong cheerleading skills, leadership and overall performance during UCA camp.

The Cubs evened the score in the fourth on Kevin Alcántara's two-run single before breaking the game open in the seventh. Pete Crow-Armstrong delivered the go-ahead RBI single, and two batters later Bregman crushed a three-run homer to turn a one-run game into an 8-4 Chicago advantage.

CINCINNATI, Oh. (WMDJ) — The Cincinnati Reds powered their way past the Philadelphia Phillies 11-5 Wednesday night, belting five home runs to even the three-game series at one game apiece.

The Phillies grabbed a 2-0 lead in the second inning, but the Reds answered in the third when Sal Stewart launched a two-run home run to tie the game.

Cincinnati took control with a five-run fourth inning. Noelvi Marte opened the inning with a solo homer before Edwin Arroyo tripled and scored on a two-run blast by Elly De La Cruz. Stewart then connected for his second home run of the night, followed by a solo shot from JJ Bleday to stretch the lead to 7-2.

The Reds added four more runs in the sixth inning. Marte delivered the biggest hit of the inning with a bases-clearing double, finishing the night 2-for-5 with four RBIs.

Stewart went 2-for-4 with two home runs and three RBIs. His second homer of the game was his 19th of the season, setting a Reds franchise record for the most home runs by a rookie before the All-Star break, breaking the previous mark held by Frank Robinson.

De La Cruz finished 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs, two walks and three runs scored, while Chase Burns earned the win after allowing three runs on three hits over five innings. Burns walked six and struck out two.

Philadelphia hit three home runs of its own, including Kyle Schwarber’s 32nd of the season in the ninth inning, but the Reds’ offense proved too much.

Philadelphia did its damage in the third inning. Trea Turner drove in the game's first run with an RBI groundout before Kyle Schwarber launched a two-run homer to right-center, giving the Phillies a 3-0 lead.

Andrew Abbott settled in after the rough third, finishing six innings while allowing three runs on five hits and striking out eight.

Cincinnati finally got on the board in the seventh when Eugenio Suárez crushed a solo home run to left field, his ninth of the season, cutting the deficit to 3-1.

The Phillies added an insurance run in the eighth on Edmundo Sosa's sacrifice fly to restore a three-run cushion.

The Reds had opportunities late, including loading the bases with two outs in the eighth, but Suárez struck out to end the threat. Wheeler dominated Cincinnati's lineup, allowing one run over seven innings while striking out 14. As a team, the Reds struck out 18 times.

The Cincinnati bullpen continued its recent strong stretch, allowing just one run over the final three innings.

CINCINNATI, Oh. (WMDJ) — The Cincinnati Reds wrapped up their series against the Baltimore Orioles with a 3-2 victory Sunday afternoon at Great American Ball Park, snapping a six-game home losing streak.

Runs were hard to come by for both clubs until the fifth inning, when Spencer Steer broke the scoreless tie with a two-run home run to right-center field, scoring Eugenio Suárez for a 2-0 Reds lead.

Baltimore answered in the sixth on Coby Mayo's RBI single to cut the deficit to 2-1, but Sal Stewart provided an important insurance run in the eighth with an RBI double that scored Edwin Arroyo.

The Orioles threatened in the ninth, scoring on Gunnar Henderson's sacrifice fly to make it 3-2, but Emilio Pagán recorded the final out to earn his seventh save of the season.

Nick Lodolo turned in a strong start, allowing one run on six hits over six innings while striking out four to improve to 3-2 on the season. Brock Burke and Julian Garcia combined for two scoreless innings before Pagán closed the door despite allowing a run in the ninth.

Steer finished with the game's biggest hit, driving in two runs with his 14th home run of the season. Stewart added an RBI double and Arroyo scored a run, while Tyler Stephenson collected two of Cincinnati's five hits.

The Reds improve to 41-48 and will have Monday off before opening a three-game home series against the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday.

CINCINNATI, Oh. (WMDJ) — The Cincinnati Reds erased an early three-run deficit, but a disastrous fourth inning proved too much to overcome in an 8-5 loss to the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday night at Great American Ball Park.

Baltimore jumped in front immediately when Samuel Basallo launched a three-run homer in the first inning. The Reds answered with a run in the bottom of the inning on Eugenio Suárez's RBI single before taking the lead in the second.

Jose Trevino started the rally with an RBI double, TJ Friedl followed with an RBI triple to tie the game, and Elly De La Cruz delivered an RBI single to put Cincinnati ahead 4-3.

The lead didn't last long.

The Orioles sent 10 batters to the plate during an eight-hit fourth inning, scoring five runs to regain control. Blaze Alexander's two-run single put Baltimore back in front before Adley Rutschman added a two-run double. Pete Alonso capped the inning with an RBI single, stretching the lead to 8-4.

The Reds managed only one more run the rest of the way, as Suárez collected his second RBI single of the night in the seventh to score Sal Stewart.

Hunter Greene struggled in his return to the mound after being sidelined, allowing eight earned runs on seven hits in just over three innings while striking out seven. Julian Garcia provided a bright spot out of the bullpen, tossing two scoreless innings without allowing a hit. Rhett Lowder came out of the bullpen and followed with three scoreless innings, giving up just two hits.

Offensively, Cincinnati finished with 11 hits. Trevino led the way with three hits, while De La Cruz and Suárez each collected two hits and drove in runs.

Baltimore wasted little time getting on the board, scoring in the first inning after Taylor Ward crossed the plate on a throwing error by catcher Tyler Stephenson during a double steal. The Orioles added two more runs in the third when Samuel Basallo launched a two-run home run to left-center field, giving Baltimore all the offense it would need.

Cincinnati threatened at times, drawing six walks, but couldn't come up with a timely hit. Elly De La Cruz, Spencer Steer, Noelvi Marte and JJ Bleday each collected one hit as the Reds finished with four hits and left runners stranded throughout the night.

Brady Singer took the loss, allowing three runs on three hits over five innings while striking out six. The bright spot for Cincinnati came out of the bullpen, as Caleb Ferguson, Chase Petty and Juilian Garcia combined for four scoreless innings. It marks the second consecutive game the Reds' bullpen has not allowed a run after struggling for much of the season.

MILWAUKEE, Wi. (WMDJ) — The Cincinnati Reds avoided a four-game sweep Thursday afternoon, defeating the Milwaukee Brewers 7-2 to snap a six-game losing streak against their National League Central rivals.

Sal Stewart got the Reds on the board in the first inning with his 17th home run of the season before Cincinnati broke the game open in the fourth. Noelvi Marte drove in JJ Bleday with an RBI single, and Jose Trevino followed with a three-run homer, his first of the season to give the Reds a commanding 5-0 lead.

Milwaukee answered with solo runs in the fifth and sixth innings on Garrett Mitchell's home run and Brice Turang's RBI double, but the Reds kept the pressure on. TJ Friedl added a solo home run in the seventh before driving in another run with an RBI single in the eighth to cap the scoring.

Trevino finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs, while Friedl collected two hits and two RBIs. Stewart, Marte, Bleday and Eugenio Suárez each added a hit as Cincinnati finished with 11 hits.

Chase Burns earned the win after allowing two runs on four hits over six innings while striking out four. He's now 10-1 on the season. The Reds bullpen was outstanding, as Sam Moll, Tejay Antone and Brock Burke combined for three scoreless innings, allowing no hits while striking out three.

The victory snapped Milwaukee's six-game winning streak over Cincinnati.

MILWAUKEE, Wi. (WMDJ) — The Reds couldn't hold onto a second-inning rally Wednesday night, falling 4-2 to the Brewers at American Family Field.

Milwaukee jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI groundout by William Contreras and a sacrifice fly from Jake Bauers.

Cincinnati answered in the second when Noelvi Marte launched a two-run homer to left field, his fifth of the season, tying the game at 2-2.

The score remained even until the seventh inning. Garrett Mitchell ripped an RBI triple to center to put the Brewers back in front, then came home moments later on a wild pitch by Brock Burke to extend the lead to 4-2.

The Reds collected eight hits, led by two-hit performances from Elly De La Cruz and Tyler Stephenson. Marte drove in both Cincinnati runs with his home run.

Andrew Abbott allowed two runs over five innings before the bullpen took over. Burke was charged with the loss after allowing the go-ahead runs in the seventh.

With the win, Milwaukee has now beaten Cincinnati six straight times this season and clinched the series. The Reds also fell to 4-20 against NL Central opponents this year.
