PHOENIX, Ariz. (WMDJ) — JJ Bleday became the first Cincinnati Red to hit for the cycle since 2023 as the Reds rolled past the Arizona Diamondbacks, 11-5, Saturday night.

Bleday doubled home Elly De La Cruz in the first inning, tripled home Sal Stewart in the third and completed the cycle with a solo home run in the sixth. He finished 4-for-6 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

De La Cruz also had four hits and scored four times, including his 21st home run of the season. Héctor Rodríguez hit his first Major League homer, while Matt McLain added a solo shot in the eighth.

Cincinnati collected 16 hits and scored in seven of the first eight innings. Starter Rhett Lowder earned the win after allowing four runs, three earned, over six innings.

The victory improved Cincinnati to 62-68 and evened the series.

PHOENIX, Ariz. (WMDJ) — The Cincinnati Reds had a night to forget Friday as the Arizona Diamondbacks rolled to a 9-0 win in the opening game of their weekend series at Chase Field.

Arizona jumped on Reds starter Nick Lodolo early, scoring six runs over the first four innings. Jordan Lawlar delivered the biggest blow with a two-run homer in the second and finished with three hits and three RBIs.

Lodolo allowed six runs on 10 hits over 3 1/3 innings as he fell to 3-3 on the season.

Cincinnati managed just four hits and went 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position. The Reds were outhit 15-4 and never advanced a runner across the plate.

The Reds will try to bounce back Saturday night in Phoenix. First pitch is set for 8:10 p.m., with pregame coverage beginning at 7:40 p.m. on WMDJ FM 100.1.

CINCINNATI, Oh. (WMDJ) — The Cincinnati Reds nearly pulled off another dramatic comeback Thursday night, but a six-run ninth inning by St. Louis proved too much to overcome in a 10-9 loss.

The Cardinals jumped ahead 4-0 behind Jordan Walker, who drove in all four runs, including three on his 26th home run.

Cincinnati answered in the sixth. JJ Bleday drove in the Reds’ first run before Matt McLain blasted a grand slam to give Cincinnati a 5-4 lead.

That advantage disappeared in the ninth. St. Louis scored six times, aided by a Reds error, to take a 10-5 lead.

The Reds fought back with four runs in the bottom half. Eugenio Suárez recorded his 1,000th career RBI, Sal Stewart drove in two and Tyler Stephenson drew a bases-loaded walk before the comeback ended.

Cincinnati lost the five-game series, three games to two.

The Reds now travel to Arizona for a three-game weekend series against the Diamondbacks. Friday’s first pitch is set for 9:40 p.m. WMDJ FM 100.1 will join the game following Paintsville-Floyd Central high school football coverage.

CINCINNATI, Oh. (WMDJ) — The Cincinnati Reds rallied from an early deficit Wednesday night to defeat the St. Louis Cardinals 5-4 at Great American Ball Park and even the series heading into Thursday’s finale.

St. Louis scored twice in the fourth, but Cincinnati answered in a big way in the sixth when Sal Stewart launched a three-run homer, his 27th of the season, to put the Reds ahead 3-2.

The Reds added two more in the eighth. Matt McLain scored Jose Trevino on a bunt single and throwing error before Dane Myers brought McLain home to make it 5-2.

St. Louis made things interesting in the ninth when Jordan Walker hit a two-run homer, but Emilio Pagán finished off the 5-4 victory.

McLain went 3-for-3 and scored twice, while Chase Burns struck out eight over five innings.

The teams meet again Thursday afternoon with first pitch at 12:40 p.m. Pregame coverage begins at 12:10 p.m. on WMDJ FM 100.

CINCINNATI, Oh. (WMDJ) — The Cincinnati Reds’ offense never got going Tuesday night, as the St. Louis Cardinals picked up a 3-0 win at Great American Ball Park.

Cincinnati managed just three hits in 30 at-bats, with Sal Stewart, Dane Myers and Ke’Bryan Hayes each collecting a single. The Reds went 0-for-2 with runners in scoring position and struck out nine times.

Masyn Winn provided most of the damage for St. Louis. He broke the scoreless tie with a solo home run in the fifth inning, then scored on José Fermín’s RBI double in the seventh. Joshua Báez added a sacrifice fly in the eighth for the final run.

Andrew Abbott took the loss despite allowing just two runs over 6 1/3 innings while striking out six.

CINCINNATI, Oh. (WMDJ) — The Cincinnati Reds split a doubleheader with the St. Louis Cardinals Monday, dropping the opener 2-1 before rallying for a 6-5, 10-inning victory in the nightcap.

St. Louis scored twice in the first inning of Game 1 on Alec Burleson’s two-run double. Dane Myers provided Cincinnati’s only offense with a solo homer in the fourth. The Reds managed just three hits and struck out 15 times in the loss.

In Game 2, Cincinnati rallied from a 4-1 deficit, tying the game in the sixth on a Michael Toglia RBI double and a two-run single from Héctor Rodríguez.

The Cardinals regained the lead in the eighth, but Myers delivered again, blasting a game-tying solo homer with two outs in the ninth.

Elly De La Cruz then ended it in the 10th with a walk-off double that scored Tyler Stephenson for the 6-5 victory.

The Reds finished the day at 60-65.

The first game was a makeup game from May 24th due to it being postponed and game two was the actual first game of the series. There are three more games to go with game two set for 6:40 p.m. with pregame coverage beginning at 6:10 p.m. on WMDJ FM 100.

CINCINNATI, Oh. (WMDJ) — The Cincinnati Reds stayed in a back-and-forth game with Miami through seven innings, but a four-run eighth helped the Marlins pull away for an 8-4 win Saturday night.

Miami opened the scoring on Jakob Marsee’s solo home run in the third before Sal Stewart answered with a two-run single to give Cincinnati a 2-1 lead.

The Marlins tied the game in the fourth and moved ahead 3-2 in the fifth. Cincinnati responded in the bottom half when Ke’Bryan Hayes and Matt McLain hit back-to-back solo home runs, putting the Reds back in front 4-3.

McLain finished 3-for-4 with a homer, double and two runs scored, while Stewart drove in two.

Miami tied the game in the eighth before Heriberto Hernández delivered a two-run single as part of a four-run inning that gave the Marlins a 7-4 lead. Miami added another run in the ninth.

CINCINNATI, Oh. (WMDJ) — Sometimes when you have an ace on the mound, one run is all you need.

Chase Burns was dominant Friday night, tossing seven scoreless innings as the Cincinnati Reds edged the Miami Marlins, 1-0, at Great American Ball Park. Burns allowed just four hits, struck out eight and did not issue a walk, improving to 14-2 with a 2.47 ERA.

The game's only run came in the sixth when Eugenio Suárez doubled to center, bringing Tyler Stephenson home from first. The hit was the 1,500th of Suárez's career and ended Sandy Alcantara's scoreless streak at 25 2/3 innings.

Brock Burke struck out the side in the eighth before Emilio Pagán worked a perfect ninth for his 15th save.

Wasn't pretty offensively but what matters most is getting the W.

CHICAGO, Ill. (WMDJ) — The Cincinnati Reds survived a late White Sox rally Thursday, holding on for a 9-8 win in Chicago to take the series.

Cincinnati jumped ahead immediately. Sal Stewart hit his 26th home run in the first inning before Eugenio Suárez added a two-run shot for a 3-0 lead.

Chicago answered with four runs over the first two innings, but the Reds regained control in the fourth. Stewart delivered an RBI single before Tyler Stephenson launched a three-run homer to put Cincinnati ahead 8-4.

Tensions briefly flared in the third after Stewart was hit in the helmet by a Davis Martin pitch, causing both benches and bullpens to empty. No major confrontation followed.

The White Sox cut the deficit to 9-7 in the eighth and scored again in the ninth, but Julian Garcia recorded the final three outs for his second save.

CHICAGO, Ill. (WMDJ) — The Cincinnati Reds were held to just two hits Wednesday night as the Chicago White Sox evened their three-game series with a 5-0 win at Rate Field.

Chicago opened the scoring in the third when Drew Romo hit a solo home run off Reds starter Rhett Lowder. Lowder allowed two runs on seven hits over 5 1/3 innings, striking out four.

The White Sox extended the lead in the sixth when Chase Meidroth hit a two-run homer, making it 3-0.

Chicago added two more runs in the eighth. Romo drove in Colson Montgomery with a single before Tristan Peters scored on a wild pitch.

Sal Stewart accounted for both Cincinnati hits as the Reds struck out 13 times. Chicago starter Luis Castillo, and former Red, worked seven shutout innings, allowing one hit while striking out 10. This is also Castillo's first win with the White Sox. 

The series is tied at one game apiece. Thursday’s rubber match begins at 2:10 p.m., with WMDJ pregame coverage starting at 1:40 p.m.

WASHINGTON D.C. (WMDJ) — If you’re the Cincinnati Reds, this is a weekend you try to forget as quickly as possible.

The Washington Nationals completed a three-game sweep Sunday afternoon, beating Cincinnati 7-1 and dropping the Reds to 56-61.

Cincinnati took its only lead in the second inning when Dane Myers brought Tyler Stephenson home on a sacrifice fly. Washington answered with two runs in the bottom half before Abimelec Ortiz homered in the third to make it 3-1.

Reds starter Brady Singer kept Cincinnati within striking distance, allowing three runs over six innings, but the offense never got going. The Reds finished with only four hits and struck out nine times.

Washington pulled away late, scoring once in the seventh and three more in the eighth, highlighted by Andrés Chaparro’s two-run double.

The Reds will have Monday off before their road trip continues Tuesday night with the opener of a three-game series against the Chicago White Sox.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WMDJ) — A rough night for Cincinnati ended with the Reds falling to the Washington Nationals, 8-2, Saturday night at Nationals Park.

Washington struck first on a two-run single by Abimelec Ortiz in the third inning before Eugenio Suárez gave Cincinnati its only real spark of the night. Suárez hit his 16th home run of the season in the sixth, a two-run shot that scored Sal Stewart and tied the game at 2-2.

The tie didn't last long.

Washington answered with four runs in the bottom of the sixth, highlighted by a two-run double from Andrés Chaparro, to take a 6-2 lead. The Nationals added two more runs in the eighth.

Chase Burns endured one of the roughest outings of his young career, allowing five earned runs on six hits and three walks over 5 1/3 innings. He struck out six and fell to 13-2.

The Reds managed just five hits and fell to 56-60 on the year.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WMDJ) — For nearly three decades, Kentucky high school sports fans have relied on the Riherds/KHSAA Scoreboard to follow scores and results from across the state. Beginning with the 2026-27 school year, that familiar system is changing.

The Kentucky High School Athletic Association has launched a new scoreboard at khsaascoreboard.org, powered by Arbiter and integrated with the KHSAA360 system already used by member schools.

The new site allows users to browse schedules and scores by sport, school and date, while individual ArbiterLive school pages will provide additional information including rosters, schedules, coaches, results, statistics and, when provided by schools, ticketing and streaming links.

KHSAA officials say the system remains a work in progress, with additional mobile improvements and features planned throughout the fall.

Statistics will also roll out gradually. Team statistics will appear on individual ArbiterLive pages after games are played, scores are reported and school representatives enter the information. Statewide statistical leaders are expected after the fourth week of each sport’s regular season, with RPI and rankings scheduled to follow after Week 5.

The longtime Riherds/KHSAA Scoreboard is not going away. A link to the legacy scoreboard will remain available through the new site, preserving scores and information from previous seasons as an archive. However, no new information will be added to the old system.

The transition follows the retirement of longtime scoreboard developer Frank Riherd Jr., whose final day working with KHSAA was June 30. Riherd, who was diagnosed with ALS late last year, had previously told the association he planned to reduce his time commitment.

KHSAA officials have credited Riherd with creating a resource that became a fixture for generations of Kentucky athletes, coaches, administrators, fans and media members.

The new system will now serve as the primary home for Kentucky high school scores and statistics going forward.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WMDJ) — The Cincinnati Reds battled back from an early deficit Friday night, but could not get past the Washington Nationals in a 5-3 loss at Nationals Park.

Washington jumped ahead in the first inning when Daylen Lile launched a three-run homer off Chase Petty.

The Reds answered with the long ball. Eugenio Suárez hit a solo homer in the second before Matt McLain and Elly De La Cruz went deep in the third, tying the game at three with back to back homers. De La Cruz's blast was his 20th of the season.

Washington regained the lead for good in the fourth when Harry Ford hit a two-run homer off Julian Garcia. Cincinnati had a chance to rally in the seventh, putting runners at the corners with nobody out, but the inning ended on a Sal Stewart double play.

The Reds and Nationals continue the series Saturday night. First pitch is set for 6:45 p.m., with pregame coverage beginning at 6:15 on WMDJ FM 100.1.

The Reds also received more bad news Friday, as the team announced Hunter Greene will undergo surgery to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow, ending his 2026 season. The exact procedure has not yet been determined and is expected to take place next week.

CINCINNATI, Oh. (WMDJ) — The Cincinnati Reds held off a late rally by the Athletics Thursday afternoon, earning a 6-5 victory to complete a three-game sweep at Great American Ball Park.

Elly De La Cruz opened the scoring with a solo home run in the first inning, but the Athletics answered with three runs in the fourth.

Cincinnati quickly responded. Sal Stewart and Tyler Stephenson each homered in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game. The Reds moved ahead with two runs in the fifth, including a bases-loaded walk by Eugenio Suárez.

JJ Bleday added what proved to be an important insurance run with a solo homer in the seventh.

Andrew Abbott earned the win after allowing three runs on seven hits over six and two-thirds innings. The Athletics pulled within one on Brian Serven’s two-run homer in the ninth, but Brock Burke recorded the final two outs to earn the save.

Matt McLain homered, Noelvi Marte drove in the go-ahead run and the Reds held off the Athletics, 3-2, Wednesday night at Great American Ball Park for their third consecutive victory.

Lawrence Butler opened the game with a leadoff home run, but Cincinnati answered in the second when Jose Trevino singled home Marte.

McLain gave the Reds their first lead with a solo home run in the fifth, his ninth of the season. Oakland tied the game on Jonah Heim’s RBI double in the sixth.

The Reds regained the lead in the bottom half. Sal Stewart singled and advanced to third on a Dane Myers base hit before scoring on Marte’s sacrifice fly.

Rhett Lowder allowed two runs on four hits over six innings to earn the win. The Cincinnati bullpen retired all nine batters it faced, with Emilio Pagán pitching a perfect ninth for his 13th save.

The Reds improved to 55-58 and will go for the series sweep Thursday afternoon. First pitch is set for 12:40 p.m., with pregame coverage beginning at 12:10 on WMDJ FM 100.1.

Cincinnati trailed 3-0 before Elly De La Cruz delivered a two-run single in the fifth inning. Sal Stewart followed with a sacrifice fly to tie the game.

The Athletics regained the lead in the seventh when a throwing error by De La Cruz allowed Henry Bolte to score. The Reds answered in the eighth without recording a hit. De La Cruz scored the tying run on a wild pitch before another wild pitch brought Stewart home with the go-ahead run.

Brady Singer allowed three runs on five hits while striking out six over six innings. Julian Garcia earned the victory, and Emilio Pagán worked around two ninth-inning singles to record his 12th save.

The Reds will host the Athletics again Wednesday at 6:40 p.m. Pregame coverage begins at 6:10 p.m. on WMDJ FM 100.1.

CINCINNATI, Oh. (WMDJ) — The Cincinnati Reds struck early and received another dominant outing from Chase Burns in a 10-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday.

Cincinnati scored three runs in the opening inning. Sal Stewart started the scoring with his 24th home run of the season before Tyler Stephenson and Nathaniel Lowe delivered consecutive RBI hits.

Ke’Bryan Hayes added a solo homer in the second, and the Reds extended the lead to 9-1 through four innings. Stephenson completed the scoring with his ninth home run in the eighth.

Lowe finished 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored. Stephenson collected two hits and drove in two, while Elly De La Cruz also recorded two RBIs.

Burns allowed one run on two hits across six innings, striking out nine and walking two. He improved to 13-1 with a 2.35 ERA. Cincinnati’s bullpen allowed one run over the final three innings as the Pirates were held to four hits.

The Reds won two of three games in the series. Cincinnati is off Monday before opening a home series against the Athletics on Tuesday.

CINCINNATI, Oh. (WMDJ) — The Cincinnati Reds were held to three hits Saturday night as the Pittsburgh Pirates picked up a 4-1 victory at Great American Ball Park after a lenghty rain delay.

Pittsburgh broke through with three runs in the third inning. Bryan Reynolds drew a bases-loaded walk before two additional runs scored on a sacrifice fly and a fielder’s choice.

José Trevino supplied Cincinnati’s only run with a solo home run in the fifth, his fourth of the season. The Pirates restored their three-run advantage in the sixth when Henry Davis singled home Marcell Ozuna.

Reds starter Andrew Abbott lost command on the mound and allowed three runs on three hits over five innings. He walked five and struck out one while falling to 5-7 on the season. 

Pittsburgh starter Braxton Ashcraft held Cincinnati to two hits and one run across five innings. The Pirates’ bullpen then allowed only one hit over four scoreless frames.

The Reds struck out 10 times and finished 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position.

Cincinnati will still have an opportunity to win the series Sunday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 1:40 p.m., with pregame coverage beginning at 1:10 on WMDJ FM 100.1.
